 airplane to the obx

The Outer Banks is a remote place, but, believable it or not, we have 3 good airports all within a couple of hours from the beaches.  Of course, if you're staying in Pine Island, Corolla and have a foew bucks...

You can arrange to land at the Pine Island private landing strip with prior permission (pick-ups and drop-offs only).  The strip can be used for Pine Island homes and the Hampton Inn.   http://www.onesky.com/airports/North_Carolina/Pine_Island.html

The closest airport, and one that has quite a few flights is Norfolk International Airport. And, if  you plan ahead, you can actually get some great deals (at the time of this writing).  The airport code is ORF ...

The airport is about 1.5 hours from the Northern Beaches (Southern Shores, Duck).  Check out the airport at: http://www.norfolkairport.com/

Another great choice is Newport News / Williamsburg International Airport (PHF) and is about 1.75 hours from the Northern beaches. This airport can be found at http://www.nnwairport.com/

A bit further (about 2.5 hours from the Northern beaches) is Richmond International Airport (RIC). This airport offers quite a few direct flights into the area. Learn more at http://www.flyrichmond.com/
